Thanks. I was VERY tired from posting all night and thought I'd caught everything, but I wasn't totally wrong; Chic Anderson did call Forego's 1977 Woodward. Oh well, c'est la vie! Thanks for the heads up and for the comment!

He was a classic battler, and almost always made a stretch drive, even in the races he didn't win. I like how he was so versatile, winning from 6f to 2 miles over the course of his career.

This is truly an awesome video. There is nobody racing today with the charisma, ability and heart that Forego had. We need horses like him today, but I can't think of any who are even close. Oh well........
I personally appreciate your posting of these extroadinary videos. By the way, Wajima was quite a horse in his own right. Thank you very very much for giving us the opportunity to go back in time and enjoy these amazing highlights of the once great racing game.

Thanks for the kind support and comments. Forego truly was a legend, gotta love him!
I agree; Wajima was very talented and from what I've read, quite the ornery fella as well! That disposition made him great. Glad you enjoyed the video rewind! Take care.

Incredible horse who brought it every time while carrying tons of weight. The handicap stakes now are a joke and hardly anyone runs over 126 lbs. This is another great post CF; thanks from someone who remembers this great horse and who enjoys reliving his great races. Some pretty good rides too; he's far back with fast fractions and close up in the race with Wajima when the fractions were slow.

Five stars! Yet another awesome video, cf1970! How do you do it?! and How did Forego do it?! 4 straight Woodwards! I had no idea the Woodward was raced at 1-1/2 miles. I love Chic's '77 call: "[Forego]'s going to run today, folks." - I guess when one witnesses greatness, it's so tough to hide one's feelings even over a PA system. What a thoroughbred: the one and only Forego!

I agree with the Doctor. You're one of the sport's best YouTube fans. And the last two Forego wins, with Dave Johnson in '76 and Chic Anderson in '77 - what thrills. They must have been riveting to watch as they happened.

Thank you so much for your very kind and touching words! I love the races, especially the classic stuff, so this is a labour of love for me. Support like yours and the Doctor's keeps me going when I have my doubts about carrying on. It's been quite the undertaking, and it's a big responsibility with all that comes with it, but I really enjoy it.
I wish I could have been there to watch Forego in the flesh, and other '70's horses...that would have been a thrill of a lifetime!
Have a great week!
They don't pile ... ( 9 months ago by ebbets1965)
They don't pile weight on like that anymore. Nor do they breed machines that can stay great for so long. They tend to be far too brittle nowadays and nobody in recent years could have won a 11/8 in 145 4/5 and also win at 1 1/2 miles.
It's too bad Secretariat didn't run as a 4 year old. I only saw Forego on TV and I too had forgotten it was run at 1 1/2 miles. This was a nice touch of nostalgia.
I couldn't agree ... ( 9 months ago by cf1970)
I couldn't agree with you more, on all points; especially Secretariat not being allowed to run as a 4YO due to syndication and taxes owing on Meadow Farm. Racing was truly robbed because of that. He would have been a MONSTER as a mature four year old. Glad you enjoyed the video.

Forego was such a ... ( 2 weeks ago by BE109)
Forego was such a versatile performer,he could win from 6f to 16f(2 miles!),that is extremely rare. Almost all horses have distinct distance windows(and usually they are small),like a horse who can win at 7F,and cannot win at 6F(because he needs more ground),and yet cannot win at 8F,because he can't get the distance. Secondly, he ran his whole career on bad wheels! Just a warrior!
