Please note all. This is an extract from the list of the top 100 thoroughbred U.S. racehorses of the 20th Century. Obviously Makybe Diva and others do not qualify as she was born to late and did not race in the US. I guess Phar Lap qualifies in position 22, as he did race in the US. Whatever, this is a great show of horseflesh!

First of all, Secretariat should be the first place horse. Then Ruffian should be in the top ten. She was undefeated while she was 2, and the only race she ever lost was when she lost her life in a match race with the best colt, Foolish Pleasure. (I don't think Foolish Pleasure should be in top ten) Anyway, my top five are Secretariat, Ruffian, Man O War, Citation, and Kelso.

Discounting the fact that Sham ran last in the Belmont, it's absurd to argue that any horse is a "proxy" triple crown winner, even more so when they didn't win any leg of the Triple Crown.
