so you base your opinions according to age? you think if a pianist is playing and/or recording some certain pieces at a certain age makes him too great a player? bear in mind that different artists have different repertoire from the other, and it is possible that they learn some later than the other.

Not at all. I try to answer those who say that Arrau's technique was bad when he was old by giving examples. However about what you say... I agree with you, but in this case is important to note that when he was 20 he had played much more than the majority(than any?) of pianists at this age, when he was 12 he was able to play all Bach's pieces. And because all of that his pianism had a lot of time to evolve, and that makes his music, his art, deeper and therefore more difficult to attain.

His art has evolved more than anyone else's. The performance of a piece which has been matured for 30 o 40 years by such an intelectual like him can achieve levels which may won't be easy to follow, simply perfection in relative terms I would say. Is not something we can easily qualify or judge in my opinion, when talking about Arrau. Have you read the book about Arrau of Joseph Horowitz? If is not the case I recomend it to you, it's really a treasure situable for all music lovers.

The master at his awesome best, demonstrating ease of execution and characteristic command of tone. It's a shame about the cut in the video near the end, and the missing opening.

man... right now I'm playing this piece, and I was looking on Youtube for inspiration, and this is exactly what I needed... after 1:52 is REALLY REALLY hard. maybe I'm just bad at the piano, but being able to play that part is great for me. and I love how he plays the part of the song before 1:52. nice transitions, and all that stuff. BRILLIANT!

í hay quienes dicen que Arrau era lento, tenía poca técnica y era plano... se nota que solo lo han escuchado cuando él tenía 80 años, y ponía más enfasis en el fraseo que en la velocidad (lo que tampoco es criticable)
