Learn to jump off 1 foot. Most people can jump 8-12 inches higher off of 1 foot. You need to swing your arms and leg up and drive thru the jump.

Barkely said he used to jump over fence. Jumping fence or hurdles with 2 feet is very very effective. Also.. When you do weightlifting, it's not enough to have strong legs but also abs and BACK. Actually, weight lifters can jump very high, because everything they do is fast, rapid lifts. Not slow like a bodybuilder. You don't jump slowly, right? It has to be explosive. That is why jumping hurdles works.

dont waste your time weight lifting. all u need to increase your vert is your own body weight. thats what ur tryin to lift remember. then just do lots of calf raises and plenty of other exercises for quads and hamstring. they all have individual roles in your air jump. (hang time, how fast you explode upwards)

All that is great but im 5'10" and you can see by my videos that i can do just about any dunk i want to all i do is calf raises and squats and stretch and air chair and then you will be gettin up like me maybe but i been dunkin since the 8th grade and jumping off two feet is the best no risk to the knees and you have more power and jump higher but its good to do both

I'm 13, 5"9-5"10 and can touch the rim (by just a bit) on good days. I am going to start more intense calf and leg muscle training soon though.

from what i can see in this video you are focusing too much on strength to improve your jump. strength is one part of it. another part is how quickly you can use that strength. i think you should focus more on plyometric type exercises. you're a two leg jumper, so do stuff like 5 maximum jumps in a row with say, 15 or 20 pound dumbells in each hand, 3 times. then do it 3 times without the dumbells. do this 3-5 times a week.

Thanks, that is what i plan to do in about 2 weeks time. I squat more than 1.5X bw now.. but my deadlift is still shixty ... so.. yeah.. thanks

also, do depth jumps. these are excellent for reactive speed and for decreasing the time it takes for you to jump, which means your body can utilize its maximum jumping power in a shorter time, which means youll jump higher and faster. search "depth jump" on youtube, there's a guy who demonstrates it properly. and remember, do NOT do to many of these. they seem easy, but they put a huge stress on your legs, id recommend doing 4 in a row for 1 set, and do 3 sets per workout.

im 14 years old about 5'10". i can dunk a basketball. i did it by going outside and lowering the rim and just keep dunking for like a half hour every other day. i went from a 24 inch vert to over 30 in a summer.
