I think the Gallows version is better for one reason. The voice that singer has is better and fits the song. These guys are doing a beach boys version of the song. You almost laugh now when you hear their "Never Surrender" part. Don't get me wrong, I love the Ruts more than Gallows. I listened to another Gallows song after the cover.. don't bother. The cover is all they got.

Honestly, I love the Gallows version just because of the energy that they present vs the Ruts. But the Ruts wrote the song. So yeah.

You say they cant write their own songs but the clash covered many songs such as Police and thieves,I fought the law,Pressure drop and police on my back and Joe Strummer and Mick Jones were both incredible song writers. So ppl who cover songs doesnt mean they cant write their own songs...thats a ridiculous comment to make unless your like westlife ofcourse...

Yeah you're right of course, it's ok doing the odd cover song now and again - "Helter Skelter" by the Banshees and "Walk On By" by the Stranglers spring to mind . But nowadays so many so-called "bands" or "groups" seem to do nothing but cover versions. And crap ones at that !!

I was about 9 yrs old in 1980 and Living in Fiji I moved to Australia later. Rutz albums were only to be found in dingy record bars no one went to. What people seem to be failing to understand is that when the Ruts sang this, it actually meant something, to them and everyone listening.
