I remember watching this match on Saturday Morning when I was 10. This match jump started Honky's WWF career while simotaneously ending Steamboat's. Honky would go on to have the longest IC title reign in history and be one of the WWF's top heels for the next couple years. Steamboat on the other hand would not be involved in another major storyline again, and would leave the company within a year.

Steamboat went to WCW where he would win the heavyweight title from Ric Flair in a series of some of the greatest matches of all-time. That was after this match. So, you are wrong. Steamboat's greatest run -- albeit short lived -- was yet to come.

I said this ended Steamboat's WWF career. Yes he would go on to WCW (then the NWA), and win the world title from Ric Flair. But after this match, Steamboat never did anything in the WWF again.

Steamboat was punished by WWF management for asking for time off to spend with his wife and newborn son so soon after recieving the title. Rumor has it that Honky was a last minute sub for Butch Reed

talk about screwjob. At least Bret Hart had something to show when he left WWE. Steamboat was supposed to hold that title for 15 months and possibly even win the tournament @ Mania 4instead of getting squashed like he did. Poor guy just wanted to spend time w/ his baby and wife. When Cena asks for time off he gets it. Not that he even belongs in the same breath as Steamboat. The guys in WWF treated him like crap ever since. To this day they refuse to put him in the Hall of Fame. Get over it.

At the NCAA College wrestling tournament last season, I met a guy who's son wrestles for Appalachian State. When his son was little, he used to wrestle with Reid Flair(Ric's son) and Richy Blood(Ricky's Son). They used to travel to tournaments together and have a lot of fun. He said that Ricky was one of the most humble and sincere people he's ever known and still keeps in touch with him to this day.
Just seems like a great guy, hope to meet him myself one day.

thats right, hogan was the booker in charge of the match and booked reed to win the title but reed no showed, so he threw in honky as a replacement at the last minute.
