I saw this film on the big screen as a little girl. I remember being in awe the first time I laid eyes on Phar Lap at Melbourne Museum. Phar Lap ... 37 wins out of 51 races. Not bad. Not bad at all!

2 disc DVD movie Phar Lap features an i/view with Tommy Woodcock, PLs strapper. He gives a vivid & amazing account of Phar Laps life. Eg,
1. Jim Pike (PLs jockey) never once used the whip on PL in any race
2. PL was only 75% fit when he won in the US (hoof injury, short training period, acclimatization)
3. PL won all 4 races he raced in during Cup week in 1930, covering a total distance of 5.25 miles
4. PL had a gentle loving nature, a sense of humour & was very intelligent.

I only saw this movie two weeks ago. My mum has hounded me to watch it and it's one of the best movies I have ever seen. The scene where Tommy Woodcock runs with Phar Lap out to the start of the 1930 Melbourne Cup leaves me with a lump in my throat. He was a legend and part of Australian folklore and to this day it is only speculation about what killed him. What's important is what he achieved and a great story of an underdog that inspired a nation at a time of great depression. RIP 'Bobby'

He did -The Agua Caliente Handicap 20/03/32 - in record time of 2:2.8 carrying 9st 3lb (129lb or 58.5kg). Also the first time racing on dirt not grass as well as with heaving bar shoes because of an injury

Bobby was the worlds fastest galloper. DOnt hate the AMericans guys even though they did posion bobby. They just don't like competition and will do anything to get rid of it. Poor horse though, what a slow way to die. They only thing he did wrong was love racing so much. He will always be, the fastest galloper in the world. AN unbeatable horse. RIP Pharlap....

well to tell you the truth, I have only heard two people (including at the race track where i work) say that they consider Tommy killin ghim... Of course Tommy thought he killed him, I would think that to, but thinking and knowing are to different things.
