In response to chemiecta: That's a bit of an oversimplification. Is jazz a music form shaped largely by African Americans? Yes. Were all the instruments you see in this video -- and much of the music structure on which jazz is based -- invented by Europeans? Yes. Have there been many white musicians who contributed to the development of jazz? Yes. It's music. American music. The product of many cultures. Why not leave it at that?

Thank you for posting this. I had occasion to catch The Count live in the early 70s. Basie was a genius. His phrasing was unique. Like Louis Armstrong it was what he didn't play more than what he played that shaped his sound...

Great tune. Love Basie especially the stuff he did in the small combos but hey the big band was great too. Should also check out the Buddy Rich drum solo pt1 and pt2 which is from his version of this tune. Great stuff!

They don't make 'em like this anymore. I was fortunate enough to see Count Basie a couple of times before he died. The band swung just as hard as it did in this video!!

I was fortunate to attend three Basie concerts, twice in the mid-late 60's and once in the 70's. As JazzMaestra says, they don't make 'em like Basie any more.
