She was Gabriela Andersen-Schiess, a swiss athlete who competed at the very first women marathon in the Olympic Games (Los Angeles '84). She pushed herself to the limit because at that time she was 39 years old, so that could be probably her first and last chance to finish a marathon in the Olympic Games. In that epic last lap to the stadium (which took her more than 5 minutes) several medics tried to aid her, but she refused their help because if they touched her, she would be disqualified.

The last one about respecting your opponents is my favorite... these days people seem to have lost sight of what sports is all about. Greatness was never about showing off. Because unlike the despicable world of Professional Sports, the Olympics was never about showing you got "GAME" , that youre a "BALLER" or showing your "BLING" Such terms are only uttered by those people who have no class. The Olympics is all about Pride and Honor... doesnt matter if youre first or last.
