yeah, usually you want your lap slide guitar strings to be a ways off the fretboard so you can get a cleaner attack and so the bar doesn't clack against the fret bars. You can get a capo to raise the strings but you should check with a guitar tech to see if it will suit your guitar and not warp the neck.
