I love riding western, I do ride english most of the time but ontop of jumpers and hunters we do western pleasure and competitive trail. My horse isnt to fond of barrels though lol but we do alittle reining for fun :P

I love english and western riding. I mainly ride english and jump, but I get excited when my instructor lets us ride western.
I would be able to ride it more often, but the pony I ride just rides like an english horse ing a western saddle. lol

Well the techniques are the main parts, in english you have to have that strict position, but in western you have to barely move, but still keep your horse moving at a steady pace, and for longer periods of time. In reining you have points that you have to watch when doing your circles, that is pretty easy, but the hardest is spinning when you spin you have to count to 4, most horses go so fast that you can barely count. Because the last western video, someone like you, complained that the barrel clips where slow and boring. So i put a few faster.

I show the all-around AQHA. Personally, I like huntseat best, but love the challenge that each discipline provides. At the top levels western riders are just as graceful as their huntseat counter parts. Check out some videos of quarter horse congress horsemanship to see what I'm talking about--those are some of the top riders in the industry. Its pure poetry in motion :-)

I agree--there is nothing more beautiful in my opinion then a well trained willing grand prix dressage horse. I've never had the opportunity to learn dressage at that level or ride one trained so well, although we use many principles of it in training our qh. I thought your comment about grace referred to the riders...western gets a bad rap sometimes b/c of "backyard" riders/rodeo connotations where little attention is paid to true horsemanship/equitation, thus my comment about qh horsemanship

I'm not talking about the horses' grace--I'm talking about the riders. As far as QH vs. Arab, I'm not even going there, I've ridden both and competed with both, appreciate both but clearly have my fav ...I give up on this conversation :-(

haha okee :d wat leuk dat je western doet na 9 jaar dressuur! Ik rij ook gewoon dressuur, nu pas 8 maanden eigenlijk. Toekomstdromen moeten er zijn toch, wwaar doe je het anders voor! ^^
