Nope. That's called a tethered flight. The rope is there so the guy (who is still LEARNING to fly the jetpack) won't fly all over the place and REALLY hurt himself. Just think about what would happen if he hit his head hard, fracturing the vertebrae of his neck: he would spend the rest of his life completely paralyzed. That kind of injury cannot happen during a tethered flight.

The exhausts are too far away to the sides of your body to injure the back of your legs. The injuries to the knees and shins come from bumping your legs against things when you lose control of the jetpack (or failing to land on your feet, as it was the case with Wendell Moore).

hey, at least someone who knows the drill. (this was me in the video) yeah, I fucked up pretty bad. I actually broke the tether in this flight- sadly, the camera-person stopped filming. after the initial loss of control I bent the throttle arm on the first wall impact, losing power control (not that it would have helped, there is also a throttle lag). there is another 20sec of bouncing around. sigh. not my best moments.
